Serena Bedroom Refurbishment Project

Serena Hotels took the decision to refurbish all of their upper floor bedrooms in their Dar es Salaam flagship hotel. IPA have been working with the company over a number of years to develop several concept proposals for their hotel rooms. This proved an interesting design problem in that the challenge was to fully modernise the prototype Serena hotel room whilst at the same time retaining some of the recognisable design motifs which feature in their current property portfolio – particularly the influence of Islamic design elements.

After having completed 2 previous concept solutions, this then led to the execution of a full mockup room refurbishment including not only the room and ensuite bathroom but a section of the corridor.

The intention of this exercise was to provide the most attractive and appealing hotel room in Dar es Salaam. In order to achieve a full international 5-star status. The mockup room was completed in the first half of 2024 and the full room refurbishment project is awaiting Project greenlight.
